Default Changing your game so u can bowl into your 90's??

Hi.. im kinda at that mid life crisis thing. 45male.. except i dont have the Ferrari.

Anyway, have been bowling for last 8yrs two handed and happy with how it went. Ave beyond 200 and slowly improving . However it dawned on me that if i wish to bowl into my twighlight years then i will need to look at rethinking my action..

Whilst i.keep in good shape, cant see any elderly people bowling with 2 handed release.

I met this 72yr japanese bowler on holiday last year. Easy action. Not fast. Low revs still cruising 220's.. it was like an awakening.

Has anyone else gone through this?

This is not about high averages , only in longevity im bowling. .
    Cheers.

I don't bowl two handed so its not my experience, but my younger brother who is just about 30 is already thinking about the wear and tear two handed bowling puts on his body. He isn't in great shape, so he has that working against him too - but either way it puts a lot of physical demand on the back/torso, and he has been considering a transition to a more traditional style.

I found out the hard way last week that you have to look at changes in your style as you start to get older. I started bowling when I was 8. I'm now 49. Give or take a few years when I was raising kids on my own, I've pretty much been in at least one full 33 week league for most of my life. Last week, something popped in my hip (piriformis muscle, they say). The only recollection I have after it happened was being on the approach on my hands and knees, in the process turning my ankle. So, now I have an unstable hip, and need to recover from a high ankle sprain. Throw "turf toe", "tennis elbow", and a screwed up left miniscus in there, and you can see that I probably should have started thinking about these changes a long time ago. Now, I'm out for three weeks. The ortho told me flat out that I shouldn't have made it as far as I did, considering I'm also overweight.

I have two choices now. Continue doing what I've been doing, which will end bowling for me in a matter of years, or change. NOW! If I don't, the muscle will eventually detach, and I'll be in for one of the most painful surgical repairs there is. I love this game too much to walk away. Time to change.

Timmy.. sounds pretty grim there. You certainly have had some bad luck there mate. .look after yourself and goid luck with changes to your game.

Went bowling one handed trad hook bowling, just the one game with my kids for holidays . Felt very different. Anyway this is going to take some time and regular practise for sure..
