Thread: USBC vs PBA?

    Default USBC vs PBA?

    So what are the differences?

There are USBC events and also PBA events.

The United States Bowling Congress is the national organization that is charged with protecting the integrity of the sport of bowling; something at which that they have obviously failed miserably. It is an organization to which most league bowlers belong, since most leagues are sanctioned by the USBC, and membership for all sanctioned league bowlers is mandatory. The USBC is comparable to the USGA in Golf.

The Professional Bowlers Association is a private organization for which bowlers must qualify for membership. The PBA is comparable to the PGA in golf.

So they are mutually exclusive. There is never a USBC and PBA event? It's one or the other. Are they in a sense competitors or working together for betterment of the sport.

You're not getting it. Every PBA member is also a member of the USBC. Every USBC member, however, is not a member of the PBA. At every Major USBC event, you will find PBA members. This includes the USBC Masters, Nationals, etc. If you watch the PBA telecasts, you'll notice that there are always commercials for the USBC. The USBC sponsors the PBA, but the PBA does not sponsor the USBC, other than by members competing in USBC events.

The PBA offices are now located in the same building as the USBC in Arlington, TX. The USBC Masters is counted as PBA event. In a mutually funded deal between the PBA & USBC they reformed the PWBA. I have also noticed increased advertising for the USBC during PBA telecasts. There are a lot of things that are mutually considered. So, they do work together also in conjunction with the WTBA and BPAA. I think they should have been quicker to do a lot of things though and hopefully they continue to move forward with ideas to help all the organizations.

The PBA is almost like an "appendant body" of the USBC.
