    Default AMF vs Brunswick

Iceman has bowled on AMF lanes at a few different houses, my question is ( Are Brunswick bowling lanes any different then AMF bowling surfaces?)

Right off the bat, I notice the dot's as to where to stand are different! The Brunswick lanes have more dots to alien with but the target area is still the same.

Is the surface any different? Looks different but then that could just be cosmetic I realize. They are synthetic, and the lane was built in 1958! Its a mom and pop alley, called Gladstone Bowel, (in Gladstone Missouri).

I just started two summer leagues at this establishment! Any tips as to how to play a Brunswick vs a AMF? Finding the new starting position because of the extra alignment marks took a while, different oil machine! Did have a higher then normal amount of 10 pin leaves, along with a friend that actually quit that day because he also had a large number of 10 pin leaves. He is a 225 average bowler, and a hall of fame Missouri bowler! Said he would never come back to that bowling alley, again and quite both summer leagues. This guy knows bowling, and has over 30, 300 games, and many 800's also!

I did hear some decent scores form others while bowling? *(:/???

I don't want to quit, so this will be interesting!

I did have FRICKEN PROBLEMS picking up that damn ten pin,,,,, missed several!!! You hate it when you throw what looks like a great pocket hit only to leave the 10, and THEN MISS IT!!

I thought I had that problem 10 pin figured out, with the palm up release, but I kept missing my target I guess??? I NEED TO keep my eyes on my target.... It could be manybe the swing of my arm,,,, not sure,,,, but I do need to address this current 10 pin problem.

Around here there is quite a bit of difference between the BZs and AMFs. The older Brunswicks score lower usually. The wood is different than the newer houses even though they are synthetic - I can't remember which way it is, but one is softer wood than the other. The newer Brunswicks usually score higher than the AMFs. Not all Brunswick lanes have the extra dot on the approach, so be careful of assuming this to be true. I bowl in one Brunswick with 5 dots, the other Brunswick has 7 dots.

Oh, yes - our favorite saying...."welcome to Brunswick" when someone leaves a pocket 7-10, pocket 8-10, or pocket 7-9. One of our Brunswick lanes is notorious for this.

Good luck, stay with bowling there - a little humble pie is good for the soul!

    Default Gladstone Bowl, Gladstone Missouri

A good friend of mine quit two leagues at this Brunswick Alley because of what he said bad lane, oil conditions. He was having a hell of a time leaving 10 pins, and weird splits. This guy is Pat Henderson, look him up on bowling awards.... he was on the film we made and post on this site! He has Godzilla amounts of 300s, and 800s, and knows bowling and how to make any kind of adjustment you can think of. 59 years old and still a Huge force to be dealt with on the lanes, he is also a Missouri Hall of Fame Bowler.

Said he would never come back to bowl there again!

I am thinking wow,,, if I could do another 300 here, or even a great score, or series, wouldn't that be cool......

I to had more then my share of 10 pin leaves at this Brunswick alley! It was built in 1958, and I bowled on a team with the owner, she is in her 80's! (not a bad bowler either) LOL

I had one 7 10 but did see others just off to my left, AND RIGHT!! LOL Is it maybe true.... the Welcome to Brunswick LOL
Was my friend right in quitting..... (

A challenge that I will stick out for the summer! Two leagues, one on Wednesday, and the other on Friday, both sanctioned, and only 8 bucks a day.
Afternoon's at 1pm! (both seniors leagues, with some damn good bowlers from some of the scores I was hearing last week!)

I think I know where, and how to play it now, so next week, I know the ball and angles I want to use! Will let you know my thoughts on the Brunswick vs AMF lanes..... ice

Yes I did have a few 8 10 pocket hits... and all I could say was,,,, WHAT!!! That was a perfect sounding, looking shot!!! LOL

I haven't really bowled at a Brunswick Zone house that I know of.

Of the two AMFs…heaviest oil west of Las Vegas. At first I thought it was just the one AMF house…then I went to AMF Riverside and it was even WORSE. Something about AMFs…the lanes are slick as ****.

Heavy Oil is my friend i get tired of having to stand on lane 25 when i am bowling on lane 60 and throwing plastic and just hoping to get at least the 7 pin before it falls in the gutter

My house is brunswick, there's nothing bad about it. Tuesday league is AMF, nothing bad about it either. Only difference is the range finder that bz has as well as slightly different marks. That's only difference that i can see, oil volume is similar between my house (brunswick) and St clair (amf)

Brunswick synthetic lanes tend to be a lower friction surface.

An intelligent lane man would reduce the oil volume to compensate to make them feel the same.

Ah makes sense Mike, I wasn't sure which had low friction surface, I tend to get 1 mixed up with the other when it comes to lane type/conditions/volume

I've done open bowling at the Brunswick Premier Lanes out here, and they tend to be extremely dry - can't comment on their league conditions though

AMF synthetics tend to have more friction than brunswick. However there are several different versions of their synthetic lanes. The center I bowl my Monday league in uses the "cheaper" Brunswick synthetics and has much more friction than my Friday league which is on Brunswick Pro-Anvilane
