Cleaning Shoes?

Hey everybody! Hope all is well in the BowlingBoards world!

So I went bowling this past weekend and accidently stepped through to spilt soda while I was in my bowling shoes. Now I am sticking all over the place and not getting a good slide. Any methods of cleaning a standard pair of Dexter shoes to make them not as sticky? I'm worried of ruining them by cleaning them either too much or too roughly.

Wire brush and go vertical (length of the she back and forth, not across)

They sell brushes especially for this and I always keep one in my bag.

If that doesn't do it, buy some ez slide from your pro shop or vending machine and try putting some of that on there

This happened to me years ago.

I was able to spray the sole with some water (to remove the sugary soda) brush with your wire brush - from toe to heel to fluff and dry the sole.

if you are able to make the sole "fluffier" than it is flat and mushed, you should be ok. If you can't get it to fluff, then you will find you will probably not ever be able to slide like you did.

And if that is the case then I recommend the new dexter SRT-8's

They have changeable (and replaceable) toes and heels

I would do as classygranny mentions to clean all of the sticky soda first with water and then let dry. Use wire brush on sole and then some easy slide and test it out.

I would take a damp cloth and rub off the sole then brush with a wire brush. I would also clean off the "rubber" parts with alcohol.

Once the sole was dry good, rub in some easy slide or talc on the sole part. Then brush clean with the wire brush (going in the direction of toe to heel).

Then test.

When using the wire brush do as stated above to increase slide; toe to heel. If you slide too much then go heel to toe. If your slide is fine but just want to maintain the sole then go side to side (for future reference).

If you can not get the sole of your shoe back to where you want it
then just get one of these here Brunswick Offense Shoe Slider as it
is a lot cheaper than buying new shoes.

I bought a new pair of Dexter shoes when I came back to bowling
back in 2011 and that is the first thing I did. I put a slider on there
to protect the sole so it doesn't ware out to fast and it still absolutely
looks just like it did when they were brand new back then.

Also if you are going to ware your shoes outside of the bowlers pit
area like to the snack bar/restroom then it is best to get yourself a
pair of these here to help protect from walking into spilled soda or a
spot of spilled water/beer Brunswick Defense Shoe Covers I never go
out of the pit area without putting them on my shoes first.

First Question BowlingNewbie are you Male or Female? Second Weather your your a Female or Male I would find me a nice pair of Dexter's cause they have proven to be the most Comfortable shoe on the

market. Third if your Female I wouldn't get the SST8's those cost a lot of money and more for pro female bowlers my coach said and the pro shop guy said where I bowl the best bet if your female would be the

plain SST's or the Dexter Groove's black & white I have them they don't slide but my coach said my bowling alley doesn't have the best lanes for sliding we even took a wire brush to them my coach did cause I

didn't want to ruin them so she did vertically from toe to heel but again they still didn't slide so I used what my coach was using an Ebonite slide sock they come in different brands http://www.bowlingball.com

has one for sale there own brand its under the category of sliders, Ebay even has some there some other shoes that also slide good but gotta ask your coach if have one or pro shop pro what he or she

recommends, and if Your a Male go with the SST8's or the SST6's either one, my coach recommended those to a male student of hers. Anyway that's my opinion try all of the above Dexter's are good for

comfort and use the wire brush try the ultra slide if none of those work then get the slide sock from http://www.bowlingball.com OK?

I cleaned them with a damp cloth and a wire brush and they are much better now! I haven't bowled on them yet, but they sure do look 10x better. I'll update when I bowl on them again.
