    Question Back up ball choice

One of the people on my team wants a new ball. She is right handed and throws a straight ball through the oil, but once it hits the dry area it cuts right about 5-10 boards (depending on how hard she threw it. But it is a cut, not a curve). She is very accurate.

Her current ball is an 11 pound ebonite urethane ball. She might move up to 12 or 13, but asked me if there were any particular balls she should look at. I have no idea...

What balls should she look at? Is there any particular way she should get it drilled?

Only two things that arent negotiable:
    1. She wont change her style
    2. Not at all interested in plastic. She likes that movement on the back end.

    Maybe a 13lbs Hook from 900 Global,Brunswick Slingshot or Karma,Ebonite Cyclone,Storm Tropical Breeze.

Another urethane ball would probably be a good idea, going to anything much stronger might make the backup hard to control, something like the Brunswick karma (urethane version) Storm natural or rotogrip grenade. if she did want to increase the hook of backup a bit something like a Brunswick slingshot, Rotogrip scream/shout, karma (non urethane), or 900G hook.

I would say go with the heaviest ball that she can handle without struggling/pain,but that's a test the pro shop can do.

League is in a few days. Sorry to bump this. I got some great ball ideas, but does anyone know how a backup ball should be drilled? I have no clue, and I dont really trust our proshop guy.

Wouldn't you just want it drilled similar to a spare ball?

I wouldnt think its the same thing... The balls suggested have cores. And spare balls are pancake cores. Id imagine it would be similar to drilling for a lefty, but im not sure...

Does PAP matter with a straight backup ball with late movement? Pin high for a late read? Pin low for an earlier read? I dont have a clue... Hahahaha Thats why I asked

Drilled as for the opposite hand for a back up. Now if it's more of a cut than a sharp hook then I would definitely go with a 60° X 4 X 60° layout. Smooth and controlled.

You're spot on. It's more of a cut than a hook.

Thanks for the advice! I'll make sure she gets it, if she does decide to get a new ball.
