Default Are all spare balls equal???

Is there differance in spare balls!! Is one the SAME as another? Does drilling effect a spare ball?

As far as I know, most are the same. The coverstock is going to be plastic or polyester on almost all of them. Some might have a top weight which would have some effect depending on how you drills it. But the plastic cover isn't going to create friction like resins do, so it's not going to hook. Which is the reason most people have a spare ball, to go straight and not hook.

I am by no means an expert, so hopefully if I am way off, the pros will correct me.

that is my question.Do they have different properties? Do they have different weight blocks, or do they have one at all? Are they solid balls, (no core)? What difference is there in surfaces, and is one better than the other for throwing a straight ball. Is there a quality that sets one spare ball apart from another, or are they all the same. Is drilling a factor,,,, or can they be drilled anywhere on their surface? I should know more about this subject, but don't! I know its an important ball to have,,, not unlike a driver, and putter!! It has imporved my average a BUNCH!!! I rarely miss the 10 pin anymore!

    A "plastic" ball is polyester.

As far as I know all balls will have a top weight, top weight is added to compensate for drilling the finger holes.

But the plastic cover isn't going to create friction like resins do, so it's not going to hook.
It's not that they are not going to hook, spare balls can can hook just not as much.

I'd like to emphasize this. My first ball ever was a plastic ball. It's what I learned to hook with. I'd play the ten board and I'd hook it into the pocket.

Most spare balls will all be the same, they all have a polyester cover, have a pancake weight block, and don't hook.

that being said, there are exceptions to every rule, the taboo spare being a prime example, the ball has all the properties of a spare ball except it has the same core as the rest of the taboo line.

the best way i can see of finding out if a ball is a "normal" spare ball is to check the bowlingball.com perfect scale, a rating of 5.0 is given to spare balls

Here's a clear hammer ball with the gasmask core.

Generally all spare balls have a pancake core and are plastic! Their are exceptions as we know by Hammer and a couple other companies I can't think of at this time.

We have a lady on our seniors league that throws an old plastic ball and she is one of the top 5 bowlers, and man does she have a sweet hook into the pocket!!
She has problems with the ten pin.... hooks to the left.... figure that one out????? She never gets that damn 10 pin!! That's why I ask about drilling ect. I am going to look at the brand ball she uses! Will get back,,with you'll! I might even film it, it a sweet hook into the pocket! I will check the weight/brand/and drilling! She use to be the top gun, but now my wife is!! My wife ,,,, what can I say,,, I am soooooo lucky to have a wife that loves to bowl as much as me!! (

I'm willing to bet she throws it slower than molasses going uphill during an ice storm.
