    Default is this a foul?

so this whole thing started on my tuesday night league. there is a guy up there that i can not stand to bowl next to. if you bowl next to him and he bowls first, he will stand there and watch his ball roll down the lane (which is quite slow). i have no problem with that. the problem is when i am next to him, he throws his ball first then i get on the approach and take my first step he will take a huge side step and step right into my lane as if that side step will make his ball hit the pocket better (he steps which ever way he wants his ball to travel). the first time it happened i almost ran into him because i wasnt expecting it. the next time i yelled "roger, get in your own damn lane". one of the guys on my team mentioned that stepping into someones lane may be a foul. does anyone know the ruling on this?

No that is not a foul. That why you shouldn't be in a hurry to shoot. Wait till the bowler on the other lane leaves the approach.

    Rule 5 – Fouls
Commonly Asked Questions – Rule 5a.
5a/3 A member of a team crosses onto an adjacent approach when making a delivery. Is this
    considered a foul?
A foul is not called when a bowler crosses onto an adjoining approach area. However, if the
bowler steps over the foul line on that lane, it is considered a foul.

It could be considered a dead ball foul if he hits you while you bowl, other then that USBC rule 5a/3 is correct! I would complain to the president if it continues to happen.

A dead ball is not a foul, it's a dead ball.

    Rule 8 – Dead Ball
When a dead ball is called, the delivery does not count and the correct pins must be respotted. The
player is allowed to rebowl that delivery.

The part that would apply here is:
    e. A player has physical contact with another person or moving object as the ball is being delivered
and before delivery is completed. In such case, the player has the option to accept the resulting
pinfall or have a dead ball called.

This could apply to both players and is dependent on whether the delivery was completed.

In the above case the player that crossed over had finished his delivery, then stepped over in the the other lane, so it wouldn't be a dead ball for him.

Now if Max ran into him during his delivery, Max would have the dead ball.

You Don't need prayers, just patience. Just wait for him to finish.

Blame it on having to wait so long.
Seriously though, it's not a drag race. He can run it out, step where he wants, etc. just wait until they are completely done. My Monday league has a lot of real heavy guys that fall off every shot and always end up in the lane next to them. They look ridiculous but it is what it is.
