I'm a novice bowler and I'm planning on buying my first ball. Been doing a lot of research and I'm on a budget. I kind of had it in my head that I want a red/orange Misfit because of the bang for the buck and hearing lot of good things.
But I got a chance to demo 4 balls tonight and my favorite of the night was a Storm Rocket. It's obviously a more expensive ball but is not available until late february. One of the other balls was a Sinister but I preferred the rocket.
Obviously we are talking about an entry level reactive ball versus more of a mid range reactive ball but for those of you in the know how comparable are the storm and the misfit?
I'm still trying to develop the proper stroke but I'm definately not a power cranker. More like a 15.5 mph stroker style.
Thanks for your opinions and suggestions.

The rocket is similar to the hyroad pearl it will be more angular have more backend hook than the misfit

Thanks. Any other comparable balls from other manufactures? Maybe a little more budiet friendly?

Its not too comparable, but if you look at the wrecker from a few seasons back on sites like bowlerx.com or bowlers deals.com, that might be closer to what you're looking for

I'm a huge storm/toto grip fan I also like some C300 equipment. I say if you liked the rocket wait and scoop it up. I had a misfit and hate that ball.

The difference between the misfit and the rocket should be about $50 to $60. If you really like the rocket spend the money you will be happier in the log run. There are some other good balls that would run you slightly less the Rotogrip wrecker or uproar, Motiv Ascent Apex, DV8 diva pearl (seen on clearance if you look around) can all be had for under $100 undrilled but your really only saving about $30 so if you really like the rocket I would just wait and get it. You will most likely use your ball for at least a year the difference is about 16 cents a day if you use it for a year.

The other balls I threw were the roto grip Sinister and Wrecker, along with the Storm Creux. To me it felt like the Sinister performed closer to the Rocket than the Wrecker did but considering I have no form and I'm trying to find my sweet spot that doesn't surprise me. I felt like I got a lot less hook with the Wrecker.
Those demo days are interesting. First time I ever participated in something like that. Would be interesting to do a demo with some other companies to get a true feel. I guess ultimately any of these balls are going to be a huge improvement from throwing a house ball.

The sinister probably is closer to the rocket than the wrecker in strength but the wrecker is a longer more angular ball at a cheaper price point than most the sinister will set you back about $40 to $50 more than the rocket from what I've seen. If you really like the rocket it's what I would get. The hyroad pearl is an awesome ball and from what I've heard the rocket is very similar.

I hate to disagree with you there Amyers but the sinister is a way stronger ball than the wrecker or what the rocket should be like. Of course that is based on drilling balls in a normal fashion. I really like how the wrecker rolls though.

Yes the sinister is quite a bit stronger than the rocket most likely will be but I believe the rocket is closer to a sinister than a wrecker. In talking about this I am referencing more to backend movement not oil handling the sinister will handle much more oil than the wrecker and most likely more than the rocket.

I called an audible and ordered a DV8 Ruckus from the pro shop. $99 fitted and drilled. I felt like that was a good price and I've read a lot of positive things about it.
How wold it compare with the other balls I mentioned? I'm going to pick it up on monday.

The Ruckus should handle more oil than the others except the Sinister will hook earlier than the Rocket or Wrecker. Hard to beat $99 fitted and drilled. I have a couple of friends who have the Ruckus and have thought they were pretty good hope you enjoy it.

I like my ruckus, usually the first ball out of my bag lately. Once the lanes dry up I move in and throw the Thug. For me, the ruckus doesn't work as well if I try and stand farther left, it seems to have a point where it won't come back for me, that's usually my sign to start throwing my Thug.
I agree for $99 fit and drilled you won't be going wrong. I will tell you I do have a balance hole drilled in the side of my ball. Also it took me a good 20-25 games to actually like the ball.

For a first ball and with a great price, I believe you made a good choice. :)

Ball actually came in early so I'm going to have it drilled on Saturday instead of Monday. Will be interesting to see how the fitting goes. I'll get to use it in my fun league on tuesday.

I got fitted and drilled out today and rolled a couple of games. Fits my hand well and the pin is above my ring finger. I don't know what the technical jargon specs were. I failed to asked him. I also had to have a balance hole drilled.
My initial thoughts are that I wish I had purchased a 14lb ball instead of a 15lb ball because it just feels heavy to me. I'm sure I'll adjust to this but right now my forearm is tired. Lol. The lane conditions were very oily. Much more oily than the house lanes I have my league on. My first game was pretty decent as I tried to get the feel for how the ball reacts. But since I was bowling by myself the pace was very fast and I just got tired. My second game not nearly as good as I felt like the ball got away from me in the later frames. Also, my lack of revs really shows with this ball as it seems like I have to slow way down in order to maintain a consistent hook. With the 14lb rocket I was getting my best carry with speeds of 15.5 mph but with the ball and the increased weight I had to slow down to around 13.5mph. Just seemed very slow. I'm looking forward to using this on my house lanes so that I can get a better gauge of where I'm at. Also, I won't have to deal with the damn black lights, lasers, and disco balls that I dealt with today. Very distracting when your trying out a new ball. Time will tell how well this ball works out for me but I'm optimistic.
