Bowling Scoring Apps Comparison (specifically Android)

I was wondering if anyone has done a comparison of the different bowling scoring apps? I've not managed to find one in google so far.

There are a lot in the google play store but the user reviews aren't very comprehensive and some of them cost quite a bit more than the others. To start with I just wanted to track the games I play with my friends but I'm looking at joining a local league in the future so would like to be able to separate them out easily. I see different apps can also track stuff that others don't and I'd rather just pay for one than find I wished I'd got a better one later.

I've installed a couple of trial versions and I think that Strike Out Stats seems the best but wondered if there was either a nice comprehensive feature breakdown for the various options, or failing that just some input from the friendly people on here!

I'm interested in hearing what one people are using and why they picked that one over the others. As I said I'm leaning towards strike out stats, I like the interface and the pin selection buttons and it's half the price of the others that look to be similar feature wise...

I have an iPhone, but I tried the PinPal free version and ended up purchasing the full version. I tried Bowling Stats and Best Bowling free versions too, but the PinPal one seems more refined and has some cool stat options. Only thing I didn't like about it was you can't have more than one bowler's stats, so I just created a seprate league for each person on our team. You can sort the stats by each league, so it shows stats for only that person's league.

You can enter scores a few different ways too. You can actually select which pins you knock down shot by shot, so it keeps track of how many actual 10 pin's you leave.

I am not that dedicated, so I just mark each frame (X, 9/, 8-) and so on. You can mark still marks splits this way too. This way of entering scores still keeps stats like strike %, open frame %, spare %, single pin spare %, multi pin spare% and split spare %. You can enter your scores with dates and it has graphs too showing if your averages are going up or down. Its a pretty cool app and I would recommend it

Thanks for the reply, I do like the look of PinPal though I read that the android version is missing features available in the iphone version. Not managed to find anything conclusive as to what exactly the differences are. Think I may have to drop the author an email, though the pinpal website doesn't even mention an android version so might not be the same developer...

I have the My Lane Play and it's pretty good! Since using it and keeping track of my stats,my avg has increased by 5 pins a week for last 4 weeks i've used this app.

I've got the demo of My Lane Play, I don't like the pin selection interface, though that's just my personal opinion on the cosmetic layer. I'm not sure what it offers over Strike Out Stats either.

I wondered the same thing myself. I only found the Android version by accident. The app is exactly the same look and feel so I cannot imagine it's a different developer or there would be a primo slam dunk lawsuit for the iPhone developer. In addition to the pin selection interface, the biggest problem I see with MLP is that if you switch to a different app or leave the app to read a text message (for example) and try to go back to it, everything you entered so far is gone. That may just be my phone. I don't know. I thought maybe I needed to "save" my entries before leaving the app, but I couldn't find any such function.

PinPal, on the other hand, opens up again without losing any information.

I've got both PinPal and Best Bowling on my iPhone and I personally prefer Best Bowling. More intuitive to set up IMO.

I have Pinpal, Strike Out Stats, and Bowling ScoreKeeper.

All 3 of these are really good. I use BSK is the best one to keek track of your averages and other stats. Strike out and Pinpal are pretty close to each other but i use Strike out because Pinpal always crashes when i try to see the stats. Ive tried the free version of Frames but i find that it very basic and a bit over complicated then it needs to be for me. Plus since most time i keep my phone in my bag it i can't enter the score later on.

My one problem is non of them do what Best Bowling for ipod does and that is keep a visual record of the pin you hit.

I have tried several, and Bowling Scorekeeper is the only one I use now. It does everything I need for keeping track of my stats, very easy to use and free.

The thing I like about it is that you can globally see your stats and compare it with other users. The only thing I don't like is I can't specify what ball I've changed to in each frame. I can only specify it per game.

I recently found Frames for Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.warilysoftware.frames&feature=related_apps#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEwOSwiY29tLn dhcmlseXNvZnR3YXJlLmZyYW1lcyJd), which seems like it's got what I need, being able to specify what ball I used per frame. You can also specify what board and arrow your at. Unfortunately, even though I'm at a board, I often move forward or back as well. Although I haven't used it yet and just kind of entering data and messing with it, it seems to crash allot. I don't know if it has any global stats, to see how well I do against other bowlers.

I use Strike Out Stats totally revolutionized my scorekeeping lol. I was writing stuff manually in a bowling record book. Nice seeing all the different stats I have and keeping track of the various leagues I'm in.

Although the concept of Frames for Android looks good, the app is buggy. I tried using it in a league. If you leave the app and do something else, like text, then when you try to go back, the app closes. You then have to enter the scores back again. Found this out on the 3rd game, by the 7th frame. I'm going to back to Strike Out Stats.

I've been using my lane play and love it. Ball changes during a game, no problem. Leave to answer a text, no proble. Stats are there and enough to help. Doesn't do starting position or breakpoint though but I already have enough to do during league

I had Bowling Scorekeeper for Android, it's pretty good, but also pretty basic. I only used it to track scores by game, as well as tracking my overall averages.

I now have an iPhone, and use iBowlStats (paid app). It's far more advanced than the bowling scorekeeper app, with even more info that you can input to track EVERYTHING, even as far as what ball you are using, What slide in your shoe you're using, the length of the oil, the pattern used, where you're standing, etc... I use it to track my scores, frame by frame, pin by pin. In as much as it does, I probably only use 25% of everything else that you can do with this app..
