View Full Version : Bowling Towels - How Often to Clean Them?

I feel dumb asking this, but clearly you can't just keep using a towel without cleaning it. How often do you guys clean it? I have a gray microfiber towel and I figured I could just wash it with my other lights when I do a load. Warm water. And then I think about how oil will be mixing with my clothes and that doesn't seem to good either.
What do you guys do?
I tend to clean my microfiber bowling towel when I clean my other microfiber towels from detailing cars. I use microfiber detergent, but I imagine you could just put it in the washer maybe every 2-3 months, depending on how bad it is.

I usually do it every month. I wash them alone, with very hot water to get the oil out.

I have enough towels that I wait until I have a bunch and then wash them all at once.

I don't bother, towels are cheap enough, I just throw out my dirty towels after a little while.

I wash them whenever I notice that they are very dirty. I'll do them all at one time. Since I have multiple towels, I use one till it's dirty and then move on to the next towel. I can usually make it through half a season before I wash them. If I do more bowling than just league play, I'll wash them a little bit more often.

How often do you clean your Bowling towels?
I clean mine, as a rule of thumb, when ever they need it.

If it looks dirty I wash it. Pretty simple.

should you use fabric softener when washing your ball towels????
I wouldn't unless you like different scents mingling with your Storm balls. :D

Oh, and I wash mine every couple of months or so. I combine them with microfiber towels and detailing towels I use for my vehicles. No fabric softener, they dry better without it.

I wash mine every couple of weeks. If there's oil on my hands after I pick upt he towel, then its time to wash it.

What I've always been told is you should never use fabric softener on your
microfiber towels as it takes away from their cleaning effectiveness or at
least that is what I've always heard.
When I clean my bowling balls at the lanes with alcohol and Simple Green
after each bowling session I always just use one of these microfiber sponges
and they work great bowlingball.com Monster Pad Microfiber Sponge Yellow (http://www.bowlingball.com/products/bowling-accessories/bowlingballcom/9287/Monster-Pad-Microfiber-Sponge-Yellow.html)
I have several of them I keep in my ball bag and just take them home and
clean them by hand when they get dirty with hot water and Dawn dish soap.
I take my regular microfiber towel that I use between frames to wipe the ball
off home and wash it by hand in hot water and Dawn dish washing soap about
once or twice a month it just depends on how dirty it gets.

I have found that a common rolling pin, "wooden", works great! Lay the mic towel on a piece of marble, then starting at the TOP, apply pressure and role it down the towel to the bottom. You will notice a large amount of oil upon preforming this task! ( the key here is KEEPING pressure on the rolling Pin ),, I put the excess oil in a "bowling lane oil tin can", and take it back to the house, give it to the mechanic to be recycled! Just my part in trying to save the planet!!

That's very nice of you. :D
You must have a very well seasoned rolling pin that it doesn't suck that oil up and keep it for itself.

Just send me a Drum, 80 gal, (why mess with the small stuff), with prepaid postage, and I will, (after collecting enough oil from my rags), send it your way!!

I wash mine once a month. A little tip go to Walmart and but a pack or 2 of towels in the automotive section. 2 towels are like $2-$3. I use them clean them and then just replace them every 3 or 4 months. Hell for how cheap they are use them for a month and then toss them out.

Costco and Sam's have great deals on large bundles,,, something like 12.00 bucks for a couple dozen,,, cheaper then Walmart! I could be wrong on the amount and price,, but I remember thinking at the time, what a good deal it was compared to other places. I will take a look today and get back!

I wash mine about once every 2 months never had a prob. I keep one in my bag to wipe oil off after every shot and one at home to clean with using the power house ball cleaner both are the Dv8 ones that came in the boxes when I ordered from Bowlingball.com they did not take Em out like the pro shops do ;).

I haven't had a pro shop (used three since DV8 came out) remove the towel or sticker on me yet. Of course it may help that two of them are local and let me lay out my own balls. The other, www.BowlerX.com ships them drilled already to the specs I provide.

Bill what you mean by you haven't had a pro shop, you didn't finish the sentence you said it like there more to it you mean that www.bowlerX.com is your website or what, or you saying you don't have one, or never had one, or never had a pro shop ever cause your making me a little confused?

Wolfgirl, What Billf was saying is that since DV8 has come out, he has used three different proshops and none of those have taken the towel or sticker that comes with your ball out of the box. Refering to what Jaescrub was saying how some proshops might do that when buying the ball from them.
