Just wondering if i should go to a bigger size or will i lose some lift. My defiant and maxxed out were drilled by the same pro, and when i put my fingers in i have to push pretty good to get em in somewhat. The only other ball i have is older hammer but my fingers slip right in maybe a little loose. I will say my finger tips were a little sore after bowling 5 games last friday night with the new maxxed out that i won from here. When i asked the pro about it he said tighter is better. Also my thumb hole on both is almost egg shaped. When I asked him if it should more circular he said its the way it should be. Im not getting tore up bad from the balls except for my finger tips last week. Just wondering if I should listen to him and worry more about bowling better than blaming it on the ball or should i maybe seek out another driller?

Find a new pro shop!

Your fingertips are to tight! The inserts should be snug not tight. The thumb hole should be round, not oval and should be a snug to sligtly loose fit. Slightly loose to allow for thumb changes during weather changes.

the finger tip should not be too tight i have a nicely fitting finger tips in all my balls but 1 i wanted to see what it dose and for me it helps me create more revs but the speed is not accuract its up and down on every shot but when i use the one that my fingers can just slid into with a bit of snug my speed is always the same.

soo if anything if your fingers are hurting then you should get them bigger and maby get a new driller too cause it seems like he dose not care much he just wants money thats my guess fronm wat he sead and what you asked him.

Agree with the above, the finger grips should be snug...but not tight to the point you are fighting to get the fingers in.

As for your thumb hole, it should match the shape of your thumb.

If the shop owner won't adjust the ball for your comfort, you need to find a new shop.

Try going a half size larger on the finger tips. After bowling for so many years, just this past year, my fingertips expanded after bowling so much. I ended up going up a half size to accommodate it. But now I'm back to my original size, so several factors can cause you to make changes like the friction caused from bowling and the weather. My guess on your thumbhole is that it is probably correct, although your pro shop guy isn't telling you all that much. Maybe you can just find a new guy that helps out more.

The better ball drilling machines make it relatively easy to make an oval thumb hole. Many adults have thumbs that are oval instead of round.

Your thumbhole shape should match your thumb. For example my thumb is 31/32 front to back but ovaled to 1 1/32 to match my thumb

Don't have fingertip grips on my current ball but I'm considering them for my new one. What's a good brand to get?

Vise and Turbo both make good tips. Vise has half sizes but I'm not sure if Turbo does.

Tips that are too tight will give a bad burning sensation on the release. Too loose and you lose control and revs. Once you have the size you like get extras plus a set a size larger and smaller to accommodate changes.

They should be loose. They shouldn't go very far past the first crease though. Your fingers will swell.

Got home from work yesterday and they felt good. Guessing I was swollen a bit. Im going to see how I do tonight bowling and then decide if I'm gonna change em. Does any one here keep extras and change them by theirselves due to swelling?

My fingertips were never real tight, I never really had issue with that.. It was always my thumbhole that I had problems with. I had to keep a ton of thumbhole tape and nu skin, my thumb changed sizes a lot.

It's been a really long time since I've actually bowled, and my right thumb is still swollen like 1/3rd size bigger than my left, kinda funny..

My teammate takes ibuprofen during the second game to keep his fingers from swelling. If a grip is consistently too tight, I'll have the pro shop change it. I know people who change their own grips but its more to have the feel of fresh grips without paying $5 per grip every time.

I keep extra grips and glue in my bag. I use just one drop on each grip so many times I can get them out without tearing them up. If they are worn then I give them to a friend with fat fingers and they are like new to him. I usually change my grips monthly depending on how often I use that particular ball. My Terror has over 300 games and the grips still feel good. My Misfit only goes about 100 games before they feel too loose.

Snug! Not too tight and not too loose. Too loose will cause a loss of revs, speed and accuracy. Can also cause finger pain from the ball moving around on the fingertips. Too tight causes a burning sensation on release and leads to callouses.

I like them were I can just feel my sliding in, but not too snug.

My pro shop drills oval thumb holes just as a matter of practice on every ball! He actually uses a milling machine to do so. You inserts/lifts should not be tight. If they are than you will build up un-needed callouses on your fingers that will lead to getting ever larger and larger inserts. Your finger tips should slip in easily but not 'swim" in the inserts...

Well bowled 3 games last night. First game I felt great, 2nd game started to get a little sore and tighter. By the third my finger was tore up and I couldn't get it in the ball without pain. Gonna have to change them

Change them for sure and get them each a couple sizes larger than what you are using now. You don't want to be building up un-needed callouses....

Un-needed callouses? And here I thought they were what was giving me the extra revs. They burned so bad it was such a relief when I finally changed the grips in my spare ball. I still can't believe how tight they were and how long I dealt with it. Sometimes I'm such a dope! I definitely know better but was too stubborn.
