Hi All,
I retired recently and took up bowling. I bought a 900 Global Wisdom since it is advertised as being for seniors. Is there such a thing? The Pro Shop recommended straight alcohol as a cleaner. Is this normal or would you recommend something else? I'm glad to find a site with friendly and knowledgable people.

The 900 Global Wisdom has a higher rg core which allows it to store up all of its energy until the end of the lane and most seniors have slower ball speeds which will make it great for them. I have used rubbing alchohol as a cleaner when i first started because it was cheap and worked great. I use Storm Reacta-Clean so i can use it during a series on league.

I would doubt that there is a ball made for seniors. Senior encompasses such a variety of ages, 50 to 100+, levels of physical fitness, and mental attitude. It does seem like 900 Global likes to have well known senior bowlers on staff, and that their balls match up well for bowlers who are classified as strokers.
As for cleaners, there are several threads out here about what to use. My advice is to get in the habit of wiping your ball with a microfiber towel every time you pick it up. this will minimize the amount of oil absorbed into the ball.

Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy retirement and bowling! Alcohol does work, especially on a budget. Storm reacta-clean usually does a better job, is approved for use during play and is safe for the cover stock.

Some say any alcohol works, but I use Yukon Jack 100 proof! Not sure how it helps the ball, but I have noticed it helps with my attitude! Just go easy on the stuff! ( A little goes a long way). As far as a senior bowling ball, I will be 64 next month, and I can throw any ball out there. I have 16 and 15 pounders. As far as choosing a ball, I go strictly by the looks, Name, and smell! Check out the storm balls! They all have their own unique smell! One of their newest balls the IQ, smells like apple crisp! As I have said before, you don’t know if you should throw it, or eat it!
They, ( the storm balls), also help with covering up the boozes smell, and are a nice bag freshener! Welcome to the site! I just started bowling after retiring 2 ½ years ago. I didn’t know squat about bowling, but now I am one of the go to guys for information, and advice!
Go through some of the old threads for information! Lots of good stuff that will help you become a great bowler like myself! Have fun, brother senior!!

funny thing, I wipe my ball after every shot, untill 3 weeks ago. I took that out of my pre shot routine and have been bowling much better. I still wipe them in between games and at the end of the night though

As for the Storm scented balls, all I can say is that I was away from bowling for the better part of 30 years. And when I returned recently, it was pretty clear that there were a plethora of good choices out there. But Storm seemed to be the "hot" company right now, and I liked their stuff. So I've gone with mostly Storm equipment. I find the fact that their bowling balls all have a unique scent is kind of neat. Lord knows, in years past when I used to carry by old U-Dots and Yellow Dots back in the day, after a few weeks, all my bowling balls had a scent -- the smell of sweaty bowling shoes. Having a ball that smells like birthday cake instead is a nice change. One odd thing I noted a few weeks ago in league though: It seemed most everyone on my team and the opposing team one night in league was throwing Storm. So the ball return was chocked full of Storm bowling balls. And it seemed to me that every time I got up to bowl, the collective scent of all those bowling balls was so strong, it nearly knocked me over. Somehow all the different scents were combining to make it seem like I was standing in a damn Waffle House. LOL!

Very funny!!!! Not a bad smell at all! Better then a Out House!! I grew up in the country, and I still remember what it was like, and the wonderful bouquet, and frangrance that would meet me each time I made a visit!! Wow,,,, good old days??? I think not! LOL It would have been nice to have had a few Storm bowling balls as arm rests!! Maybe a Vidid, and IQ!! That would have made going to the Out House a BALL!! (:)
Also could be called: AN OUT OF HOUSE EXPERIENCE! lol
