Post Physical Therapists NEED to Bowl!

When I started bowling in 2014, my left knee (slide knee) was incredibly sore. Not to mention, I would almost always OVERDO it...by practicing 10-12 games...thinking the more I bowled...the better I'd be. When I went to the doctor, they sent me to a physical therapist (PT). The PT just gave me some exercises to tighten up my backside...trying to take some pressure off the knee.

Fast forward to late 2021...I suffered an interstitial tear of my right Achilles. Now, the "good" news is that an "interstitial" tear doesn't cause the Achilles to detach...which requires a more serious surgical procedure and a very long and difficult recovery. So, I went to PT in Iowa...and THIS TIME...I showed the PT how a bowling approach works...and what my right leg does during that approach (because she had no clue).

Now, 2023, I'm back to PT (this time in Kansas) because the right knee is a serious problem. Sure, the left knee gets a little sore...but I don't bowl more than 4 games a night now...and I wear a brace on my left knee...so it's fine. BUT...the RIGHT knee has been really taking some abuse. Bot in compensating for the damaged Achilles to trying to support me (when it's slid behind me and I'm posting). Granted, 60-95% of my weight is still on the left knee...but the left knee is in a position where it's built to support weight. The slide leg is extended to the side...meaning that whatever weight it supports...is on the "side" of that knee.

So, this Wednesday, I'm gonna have to "teach" this new PT about what that (right) knee is doing in a 4-step bowling approach...so he can see the issue. Given the decline in bowling popularity, these PTs are FAR more likely to handle weekend warriors that hurt themselves golfing, playing softball, playing pick-up basketball, etc... They don't seem to understand how a person can hurt their knee bowling...because their only frame of reference is the 0-3 times per year that they go to a bowling alley.

You may need to go to the TimmyB school of bowling. No practice, and bowl 3 games a week. That rule is fractured this week with bowling 9, but hey, tournament. Next week, back to 3.
